DR+HARNESS is made for the private moment: the second a piece closes and the body answers. We make for how it feels the moment it goes on — for her, first. Everything else is leather, and the hands that work it.
The Workshop
Every piece is made in our own workshop in Istanbul. Nothing is outsourced. The same hands cut, assemble, and finish each harness, set, garter, and corset — under one roof and to one standard.
Istanbul is a leather city in the working sense: tanneries, cutters, and a fashion industry that keeps the knowledge current. We are here for the material, and for the people who understand it.
The Leather
Our leather comes from a single source: a family tannery in Tuzla that has worked in hides since 1935. Every skin arrives from them, and every skin is chosen by hand before anything begins.
We read the grain and the colour, then turn the hide and read the other side, which must be soft against skin. The weight must be firm, never spongy. The smell must be leather and only leather. What does not match is sent back.
The Cut
Each piece is cut by hand, with die-cut knives. It is the one step we will not automate. A cutter reads the hide and decides where each component belongs: where the thickness is even, where the grain runs true, which part of the skin will hold for years.
Cut from leather of one thickness, the parts of a set wear at one rate. The bra and the garter age together. The piece stays whole long after its first season.
Quality Control
Three people pass a piece before it ships: the maker, the senior leather master, and a final hand at packing. Each looks independently, against one standard. Nothing leaves until all three agree.
The Dustbag
Leather does not belong in synthetic packaging. Sealed in plastic, it cannot breathe. So each piece travels in a DR+HARNESS dustbag of dense natural cloth — made for keeping, not only for opening. It is part of the object.
On Ageing
Polyurethane is durable and unchanging. It holds its surface until it doesn't, then it cracks, peels, and is finished. Leather lives differently. It takes marks, and a patina. It takes the shape of the body that wears it, until a strap fits the way nothing new can. Open the bag a year from now and the weight and the smell return you to the first time. That is the whole argument for leather, and we build to it.
