Made in Istanbul. Here Is How You Can Tell.

Made in Istanbul. Here Is How You Can Tell.

Three questions come up before people buy, and they are reasonable ones. Is the leather real? Is it made in China? Is the brand what it says it is?

There is a lot online that stands next to leather without being it: polyurethane finishes, runs of a hundred thousand, good words wrapped around synthetic things. So we will not ask for your trust. We will show you what can be verified, and leave the checking to you.

The Workshop — Ours, in Istanbul

Every piece is made in our own workshop in Istanbul. Not a contract factory we brief by email, and not a plant we see twice a year — our space, our team, our work.

Istanbul holds its place in leather through a living industry rather than a story about the past: tanneries, cutters, and decades of technical knowledge beside working fashion production. The material is here, and so are the people who know how to work it.

The Leather — Tuzla, Since 1935

One supplier, and only one: a family tannery in Tuzla, in leather since 1935. Every hide comes from them, and every hide is read by hand before it enters production.

Colour and surface first. Then the underside, which has to be smooth against skin. Then weight and density, which have to be firm rather than soft. Then smell, because full-grain has a scent of its own and a coating has another. The coating is the thing to catch: a coated surface will not breathe, will not soften, and in time lifts from what it covers. We keep one approved hide as the standard and measure the rest against it. What misses goes back.

The Cut — What a Machine Cannot Do

Every component is cut by hand, with die-cut knives, and this is the step that stays manual. A cutter reads the hide and places each piece deliberately: where the thickness is even, where the grain runs true, which section will last. A machine cannot read a material. It repeats a shape.

Cut from one thickness, a set wears at one rate. The bra and the garters age together, and the piece stays whole well beyond its first season.

The Control — Three Checkpoints

Three people clear a piece before it ships: the maker, the senior leather master, and a separate hand at packing. None depends on the others.

We added the third after reading our own rejection data from earlier collections and deciding the rate was not good enough. The standard is higher now, and built to stay.

Leather quality control, DR+HARNESS

Made in Turkey, Not China

DR+HARNESS is a company with a workshop in Istanbul. The leather is from a family tannery in Tuzla. The pieces are made by our own hands, in Turkey.

We are not the fastest in the category, and that is deliberate. A piece takes five to seven days, because it is made after the order, not before. Fast fashion has trained a different expectation. We are not answering it.

We cannot put the leather in your hands before you decide. We can tell you exactly what it is and where it is from, answer at care@drharness.com, and stand behind every piece with a free exchange. The object closes the argument.
